This “Week in Review” post covers the previous two weeks and looks ahead to the next two weeks. While I prefer to provide these updates weekly, I was out of town on vacation in Tennessee visiting my kids last Sunday, and next Sunday I’ll be in DC on County/Water Agency business. You can expect the next update on the weekend of the 10th. (sorry Sam)
My Recent Activities (Week of 4/14)
Tuesday was a Yuba Water Agency Board of Directors meeting. Here are a few highlights from the agenda:

Review of financial statements and details for the General & Power Systems Fund for February 2025.

Receive updates regarding government relations and legislative activity
I had several other board and committee meetings on my calendar, including:
- Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) Board of Directors meeting (agenda)
- Yuba Sutter Transit (YSTA) Board of Directors meeting (agenda) [didn’t attend due to conflict]
Additional items on my calendar included an agenda setting meeting for the next Board of Supervisors meeting, a meeting with Yuba Water Agency and staff from Congressman LaMalfa’s office, and a SACOG/Sac RT Tour and Talk.
The Olivehurst Public Utility District (OPUD) ‘s Board of Directors met on Thursday at 7 p.m. (agenda), and the Yuba County Planning Commission met on Wednesday at 6 p.m. (agenda).
This week, community events on my calendar included the Plumas Lake Walking Moai and a Yuba Sutter Chamber Happy Hour at Palomas in Marysville.
The Board of Supervisors met at 9 a.m. on 4/222 at the Government Center in Marysville. I could not participate due to vacation, but I listened to the meeting remotely. The agenda contained several items of interest, including:
- Receive the quarterly update from the Community Development and Service Department.
- Victim Services unit to honor local law enforcement, District Attorney staff and community partner agencies for outstanding service to crime victims of Yuba County.
- Adopt resolution accepting the California Department of Housing and Community Development annual progress report reflecting the Yuba County General Plan and housing element..
- Adopt resolution assigning remaining portion of Northpoint Village 1 and all of Northpoint Village 2 into CSA 66 – Zone of Benefit E.

I had several other board and committee meetings on my calendar, including:
- California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Board Meeting
- CSAC Housing Land Use and Transportation (HTL) Committee meeting
- CSAC Rural Caucus meeting [couldn’t attend due to conflict]
- Yuba Sutter Arts (YSARTS) Board of Directors meeting [couldn’t attend due to conflict]
I attended the annual CSAC Legislative conference in Sacramento from Wednesday through Friday. Additional items on my calendar included giving a presentation about Yuba Water Agency and leadership at the Northern California Water Association (NCWA) water leaders meeting, a federal funding and policies webinar hosted by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG), a Cap-to-Cap Transportation team meeting, a Cap-to-Cap Flood Team meeting, a CSAC/CalCities reception, and the Yuba County On the Horizon Dinner. I attended an A’s game with some county supervisors while we were at the CSAC conference. In addition, I was interviewed by CBS13 about the planned development in the Sports & Entertainment zone near Hard Rock. You can read and watch the interview here.
This week’s community events on my calendar included the Cobblestone Elementary Spring Carnival and the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Sutter County Museum.
Looking ahead to this week (4/28)
Tuesday is a Yuba Water Agency Board of Directors meeting. The agenda includes a significant item related to the City of Wheatland and south Yuba County:
- Receive an update on the progress of the South County Infrastructure project and consider approval of up to an additional $6.2 million grant to the City of Wheatland and Olivehurst Public Utility District to complete the design and engineering of Phase One (Wheatland to OPUD) portion of the project
I do not have any other board and committee meetings on my calendar this week.
Additional items on my calendar include speaking at a press conference in Sacramento on behalf of the Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) in support of SB 769 (the Golden State Infrastructure Corporation Act), two meetings with constituents to discuss transportation projects, a training session on Incident Command for executives and elected officials, and a meeting on north state drinking water solutions.
I will head to DC in the second half of the week for Cap-to-Cap 2025. I’ll be serving on the Transportation and Flood Protection teams, and we will meet with federal representatives and agencies to advocate for the Sacramento region’s needs in those subject areas. On Friday, I’ll participate in a transportation and housing tour of northern Virginia hosted by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG).

…and the Week after (week of 5/5)
I will be in DC for the first half of the week for Cap-to-Cap 2025. I’ll be serving on the Transportation and Flood Protection teams, and we will meet with federal representatives and agencies to advocate for the Sacramento region’s needs in those subject areas. I can provide more details about the specific meetings that I attend once I return.
The Yuba Water Agency will meet at 9 a.m. on 5/6 at the Government Center in Marysville. The agenda will be published here by Friday, the 2nd.

After I return from DC, additional items on my calendar include a Board Governance Training Workshop hosted by Yuba Water Agency, a Greater Sacramento Economic Council (GSEC) chair’s retreat panel session speaker prep call, the GSEC annual celebration, and a tour of Yuba Water & New Bullards Bar with the 9th Civil Engineering Squadron from Beale AFB.
Community events on my calendar include the Yuba County Office of Education Roll & Stroll, where I will serve as a judge for the South Yuba County Sunrise Rotary Chili Cook-off.
