My Recent Activities (Week of 10/20)

Tuesday was a Yuba Yuba Water Agency board meeting, and a link to the agenda is here.  Key topics  include:

  • Hydropower Relicensing Milestone:  Consider certifying the Final Environmental Impact Report for the Yuba River Development Project and Narrows Hydroelectric Project — a major step toward securing new 50-year federal licenses for continued clean-energy generation and water management.
  • Employee Compensation and Organization Updates: Review the Classification and Compensation Study for unrepresented employees, approve revised salary schedules and class titles, and add two new full-time positions (Director of Administration and Grants Program Manager).
  • CalPERS Retirement Contract Amendment: Adopt a resolution to update the agency’s CalPERS agreement to include the General Counsel position in membership eligibility.
  • USACE Partnership for Project Permitting: Approve a $650,000 Memorandum of Agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to expedite federal permit reviews for key flood-risk and water-supply projects.
  • Financial Review: Receive August 2025 financial statements for the General and Power Systems funds.

  • Yuba Water Agency Special Workshop highlighting actions taken to reduce flood risk and increase preparedness in Yuba County by Yuba Water and other partner agencies.
  • Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) Carrier of Last Resort AdHoc Committee Meeting
  • Yuba Sutter Arts Board of Directors Meeting

Additional meetings on my calendar this week included an agenda review for the next board of supervisors meeting, lunch with community development leadership, a Greater Sacramento Economic Council (GSEC) backyard series event about some great new startups in our region, a Salmon Expedition with Bear River School, lunch with some Yuba-Sutter leaders, a meeting with my host commander from Beale, and the American Leadership Foundation (ALF) Exemplery Leadership dinner.

Community events on my calendar this week included the Plumas Lake Community Cleanup  (thank you to Recology and Yuba County Public Works for making this event possible) and the the kick off for the Jimmy & Rosalyn Carter Work Project Rural Rally that Habitat for Humanity Yuba-Sutter & ReStore is doing in Marysville.

Looking ahead to this week (Week of 10/27)

Tuesday is a Yuba County Board of Supervisors meeting, and a link to the agenda is here.  Highlights include:

  • Housing & Community Development: Consider multiple housing-related items, including over $1.6 million in grant funding through the Permanent Local Housing Allocation Program (PLHA) and continued partnerships with Habitat for Humanity and Yes to Startups to support affordable housing and small business growth.
  • Public Health & Safety: Approve several healthcare and public safety agreements, including mental health and substance-use treatment services, tuberculosis prevention programs, and law enforcement equipment installations.
  • Economic & Workforce Development:  Support Operation Green Light for Veterans, approve updates to the District Priorities Fund Policy (allocating up to $10,000 per district), and adopt a new Event Sponsorship Policy to guide community partnerships.
  • Infrastructure & Facilities:  Approve design service contracts for the 14Forward Project and Tri-County Youth Rehabilitation Campus, and authorize land purchases and project completions for key road and infrastructure projects, including Plumas Lake Boulevard Phase II and Hammonton-Smartsville Road.
  • Recognition & Reports:  Present proclamations honoring Tina Taylor’s service, recognizing Yuba-Sutter Habitat for Humanity, and celebrating Yuba County’s membership in the AARP Age-Friendly Network.

Additional meetings on my calendar this week include a DWR fall readiness event, a discussion with a Mendocino County supervisor about PG&E divestment, a Northern California Water Association (NCWA) conservation task force meeting, and a presentation on the south county infrastructure at a Wheatland City Council meeting (agenda).

Community events on my calendar this week include the groundbreaking for the Plumas Lake Middle School, the Community Flood Risk Awareness Town Hall, the Habitat Rural Rally Closing Ceremony, and the Wheatland Trunk or Treat.

 

Announcements & Events

  • Community Flood Risk Awareness and Preparedness Town Hall hosted by Yuba Water Agency on Wednesday, October 29th, from 5 pm to 7:30 pm at the Five30 Event Center in Marysville (FB event)
  • Wheatland Safe Trick or Treat on Friday, October 31st, from 1 pm to 3 pm at Settlers Village (FB post)
  • Wild West Saloon Fundraiser for South Yuba Recreation Volunteer Association on Saturday, November 1st at 6 pm at the Wheatland Community Center (FB event)
  • Wheatland Christmas Street Fair on Saturday, December 6th, from 5 pm to 9 pm on Front St (FB event)
