My Recent Activities (Week of 1/12)

Tuesday was a Yuba County Board of Supervisors meeting, and a link to the agenda is here.  Highlights include:

  • Board Leadership & Regional Governance: Elect the 2026 Chair and Vice Chair, make appointments to regional boards (including the Feather River Air Quality Management District), approve a Joint Powers Agreement with Yuba Water Agency to allow construction-manager-at-risk (CMAR) delivery for major infrastructure projects, and approve an updated Yuba County Strategic Plan. [Supervisor Fuhrer was elected as Chair, and Supervisor Messick was elected as vice-chair]
  • Infrastructure, Roads & Active Transportation: Take action on several transportation and infrastructure projects, including completion of the Loma Rica Road & South Beale Road State of Good Repair Project, contracts for the Forty Mile Road Shared Use Path, and on-call engineering support for future projects.
  • Economic Development & County Services: Approve agreements supporting economic development (CSBG administration), the Camptonville Woody Biomass Energy Project, and continued operation of the TEAM Center in Marysville.
  • Housing, Land Use & Airport Operations: Hold public hearings on ordinances related to vehicle operations at the Yuba County Airport and the adoption of a development agreement with Habitat for Humanity Yuba-Sutter for the Fernwood Village housing project.
  • Public Safety, Technology & Community Recognition: Approve items related to probation staffing, AI tools, law-enforcement technology, present proclamations honoring public safety professionals, and receive updates from The Salvation Army and County departments.

I had the honor to serve as chair of the Yuba County Board of Supervisors in 2025. Before handing over the gavel to our new chair, I made a few reflections about the year.  Watch here. (starts at 2:20)

Other board and committee meetings on my calendar include:

At the SACOG Board Meeting on Thursday, I was sworn in as vice-chair of the board for 2026.  I look forward to working with Chair Jill Gayaldo, the mayor of Rocklin, this year.

Additional meetings on my calendar this week include a meeting with the auditor controller to discuss the county travel policy, a tour of the Yuba Water Colgate Tunnel Maintenance project, and coffee with a PLESD school board member.  There was a Wheatland City Council meeting on Tuesday evening (agenda & documents) and an OPUD board meeting on Thursday night (agenda & documents).

Community events on my calendar this week included the Yuba Sutter MLK Jr. March & Program on Saturday at 10 am in Yuba City & Marysville, and a Yuba-Sutter Chamber Ribbon Cutting for Riot Gym in Wheatland.  Also, Sam Bunton from Yuba County Public Works spoke at South Yuba County Sunrise Rotary.

 

Looking ahead to this week (Week of 1/19)

Tuesday will be a Yuba Water Agency Board of Directors meeting, and a link to the agenda is here.  Highlights include:

  • Agency Elections & Governance: Call for the June 2, 2026, election for the South Division Director seat, consolidate future Agency elections with countywide elections, and update authorized signers following the selection of the 2026 Board Chair.
  • Committee & Regional Appointments: Appoint Board members to standing and ad hoc committees, the Yuba Levee Financing Authority, the Yuba Water Construction Authority, and key statewide water associations for 2026.
  • Daguerre Point Nature-Like Fishway Project: Consider approving a Project Agreement with the Yuba Water Construction Authority to advance construction of the Daguerre Point Nature-Like Fishway using the construction-manager-at-risk (CMAR) delivery method.
  • Infrastructure Delivery & Project Oversight: Authorize the next steps in using the CMAR procurement approach for major Agency projects, aimed at reducing risk, improving efficiency, and maintaining Agency oversight of costs and outcomes.
  • Routine Agency Business: Approve consent items, including prior meeting minutes, and receive Manager and Director reports on ongoing Agency operations and priorities.

Additional meetings on my calendar this week include a lunch meeting with Yuba County community development leadership, a Northern California Water Association (NCWA) Conservation task force meeting, the RCRC Rural Leadership Awards Reception, a meeting with Hicamp, and a lunch meeting with a constitutent.

Community events on my calendar this week include the Yuba Sutter Chamber Ribbon Cutting for the Hop Riot in Wheatland and the Memorial Service for Congressman LaMalfa.
