Weeks of 03/09/25 & 03/16/26

My Recent Activities (Week of 3/9)

Tuesday was a Board of Supervisors meeting, and a link to the agenda is here.  Highlights include:

  • Infrastructure & Capital Projects:  Consider multiple engineering and capital improvement actions, including on-call engineering design contracts, amendments to engineering agreements, and completion of the Garden Avenue Safe Routes to School Project.
  • Land Use, Property & Airport Actions:  Authorize negotiations related to multiple property acquisitions for public projects, approve a hangar lease at the Yuba County Airport, and begin negotiations for a real property lease with E Street MX.
  • Public Safety, Elections & Community Programs:  Adopt a resolution allowing the County Clerk/Registrar of Voters to accept Help America Vote Act security funding, approve agreements supporting regional Family Urgent Response System (FURS) services, and receive a quarterly public safety update.
  • Education, Youth & Environmental Programs:  Consider a resolution supporting the formation of a School Facilities Improvement District within the Yuba Community College District, and adopt a Yuba Wildlife Program policy guiding the use of Fish & Game and deer mitigation funds.
  • Community Recognition & District Items:  Present a proclamation recognizing the Yuba County OES youth emergency preparedness program, and consider a District 4 priority funding allocation to the Rotary Club of South Yuba County to support community events and tourism.

There are two specific items I want to highlight from the board meeting:

  • Yuba County gave a presentation on the Detection K9 Program.  You can watch it here (starts at 9:00)
  • As part of the FY 25/26 budget process, the board set aside $10,000 for each supervisor to augment the efforts of community organizations, non-profits, county departments, and government agencies to benefit residents, neighborhoods, and communities in Yuba County.  There is a standard application process, and if the district supervisor recommends approval, it goes before the full board.  You can learn more about the District Priority Funds here.  The South Yuba County Rotary Club submitted a request for $4000 to help replace the Community Christmas Tree in Plumas Lake. I recommended approval, and the Board of Supervisors approved the grant 5-0 at our meeting.  This was the first such request to come before the board, and I’m grateful for the unanimous approval of my colleagues.  See more about the specific request here and donate to support the cause here.
