Week of 03/24/25

My Recent Activities

Tuesday was a Yuba County Board of Supervisors meeting.  Here are a few highlights from the agenda:

  • Held a public hearing, waive reading, and adopt an ordinance to repeal and re-enact Title XI Development Code and County Zoning Map.
  • Approved plans, specifications, and estimate, and authorize advertisement for bids for the Loma Rica Road and South Beale Road State of Good Repair Project.
  • Approved a one (1) year extension letter to the professional service agreement with Elite Service Experts for the 2023 Yuba County Park and Landscape Maintenance Agreement.
  • Approved memorandum of understanding with Trukidz to provide one ten-by-ten storage unit for hygiene kit supplies for students in Yuba County schools.
  • Approved amendment No. 1 with Fremont-Rideout Foundation for scholarships for Yuba County residents enrolled in an accredited medical education program.
  • Approved agreement with Habitat for Humanity for the Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program to allow for an extension of time.

I had several other board and committee meetings on my calendar, including:

  • Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) Board of Directors meeting (agenda)
  • Golden State Finance Authority (GSFA) Board of Directors meeting (agenda)
  • Golden State Connect Authority (GSCA) Board of Directors meeting (agenda)
  • RCRC COLR AdHoc Committee meeting and tour of the AT&T central office in Sacramento
  • Yuba Sutter Arts and Culture Board of Directors meeting
  • California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Tribal Work Group meeting
  • Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) Mega-Region Working Group Meeting

Additional items on my calendar include a meeting with Regional Economic Modeling to discuss the CSAC Housing, Land Use, and Transportation (HTL) Committee.  Yuba County participated as a sponsor of the 2025 Industrial Asset Management Council (IAMC) Spring Forum in Sacramento, and I represented Yuba County at a Kings game network event hosted by Greater Sacramento Economic Council (GSEC) related to the forum.

Tragically, on Wednesday, a Marysville PD officer (Osmar Rodarte) was killed in the line of duty (Appeal-Democrat article).  One Thursday, I did something I never imagined I would do, and never want to do again.  The City of Marysville invited me to ride with them in the procession to take Officer Rodarte from Marysville to Rocklin.  The support shown by the community, regional law enforcement, and regional fire departments was incredible and awe-inspiring.  The procession took 11 minutes to pass a specific spot, and the route through Marysville and Wheatland was lined with community members and public safety professionals paying tribute to Officer Rodarte.  Every overpass on SR65 in Yuba and Placer Counties was packed with support, including the public, law enforcement, and firefighters on top of their engines, saluting the procession.  The ride was extremely emotional and hundreds of law enforcement officers welcomed the procession to the destination in Rocklin. (KCRA coverage)

This week, I did not attend any community events.
