My Recent Activities
Tuesday was a Yuba Water Agency Board of Directors meeting. A few highlights from the agenda include:
- Approval of the proposed FY 25/26 budget
- Consider a grant to the Yuba Watershed Protection and Fire Safe Council
- Receive a presentation concerning the Agency’s 2025 Watercraft Screening plan for New Bullards Bar Reservoir, and consider adopting Resolution No. 2025-12 of CEQA Notice of Exemption for the plan.
I had several other board and committee meetings on my calendar, including:
- Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) Carrier of Last Resort AdHoc Meeting (after negotiations with AT&T and the bill’s author, updates to AB 470 resulted in the committee voting to remove RCRC’s opposition to the bill).
- Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) MegaRegion Working Group (we received an update on the MegaRegion Dozen, 12 important transportation projects to improve mobility between the Sacramento area, the Bay Area, and San Joaquin County and we received an update on the managed lanes projects in each of the three regions.
I couldn’t attend a few other board/committee meetings this week due to conflicts, including Yuba Sutter Transit (agenda), a Northern California Water Association (NCWA) executive committee meeting, and a CSAC Tribal Working Group.
I attended the California Foundation on the Environment and Economy (CFEE) transportation conference on Thursday and Friday. I’ participated on a panel called “Natural Disasters and Climate Change: How Can We Prepare Our Infrastructure and Workforce?”. You can find the full agenda for the conference here and my opening comments for the panel here.
Additional items on my calendar included reviewing the agenda for the next Board of Supervisors meeting, a prep call for the CFEE panel, a lunch to sync up with Yuba County community development leadership, and an information session about California High Speed Rail. Most of the day on Wednesday was spent with field representatives from Senator Padilla’s and Schiff’s offices who came to Yuba County to learn about and tour Yuba Water Agency, and meet with county staff to learn about our County and our priorities and concerns. We spent the morning learning about Yuba Water and touring New Bullard’s Bar, and in the afternoon, met with Yuba County Probation and Yuba County Economic Development for an overview of Yuba County and some specific asks related to Victim Services funding. Thursday evening is an OPUD Board Meeting (agenda).
This week, community events on my calendar included joining Supervisor House to present proclomations to the Marysville Police Department and the officer’s family in honor of Officer Osmar Rodarte..
Looking ahead to this week
Tuesday is a Yuba County Board of Supervisors meeting. A few highlights from the agenda include:
- Approve memorandum of understanding with Olivehurst Public Utility District (OPUD) for the provision of free swim passes and swim lessons for children aged 6-17, and swim exercise programs at the OPUD Pool.
- Adopt a resolution approving and adopting the Yuba Sutter Regional Safety Action Plan.
- Approve site control memorandum of understanding with Twin Cities Rescue Mission, to obtain site control of the County’s 14Forward temporary shelter facility.
- Adopt resolution authorizing Health and Human Services Director to enter into an agreement with Tri-Counties Community Center for the Seniors on the Go – Yuba County program
- Approve reappointment of Desiree Hastey to the Plumas Lake Specific Plan Design Review Committee as a Resident Representative.
I have several other board and committee meetings on my calendar, including:
- Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC), Golden State Finance Authority (GSFA), and Golden State Connect Authority (GSCA) board meetings. [RCRC Agenda, GSFA Agenda, GSCA Agenda]
The RCRC, GSFA, and GSCA boards meet approximately every other month, with most meetings occurring in Downtown Sacramento. However, one of the board meetings is typically held at the annual meeting in September, this year in Placer County, and the summer meeting is generally held in the county from which the board chair is. That meeting will occur this week in Modoc County (Alturas). Interestingly, out of California’s 58 counties, this is the only one I’ve never been to. I look forward to meeting with my colleagues from California’s 40 rural counties and visiting Modoc County for the first time.
Due to heading to Modic for RCRC, I have one other board/committee meeting this week that I can’t make due to conflicts, including a Yuba Sutter Arts Board of Directors meeting.
Additional items on my calendar include a virtual annual meeting of the Red Cross Gold Country Region and a California Caucus Briefing in preperation for the upcoming National Association of Counties (NACo) annual conference.
This week, community events on my calendar include participating in the United Way Together We’re Better golf tournament, a fundraiser for the Yuba Sutter Foodbank, and a launch event for developing 3D printed homes right here in Yuba County.
