My Recent Activities
Tuesday was a Yuba County Board of Supervisors meeting. A few highlights from the agenda include:
- Approve memorandum of understanding with Olivehurst Public Utility District (OPUD) for the provision of free swim passes and swim lessons for children aged 6-17, and swim exercise programs at the OPUD Pool.
- Adopt a resolution approving and adopting the Yuba Sutter Regional Safety Action Plan.
- Approve site control memorandum of understanding with Twin Cities Rescue Mission, to obtain site control of the County’s 14Forward temporary shelter facility.
- Adopt resolution authorizing Health and Human Services Director to enter into an agreement with Tri-Counties Community Center for the Seniors on the Go – Yuba County program
- Approve reappointment of Desiree Hastey to the Plumas Lake Specific Plan Design Review Committee as a Resident Representative.
I had several other board and committee meetings on my calendar, including:
- Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC), Golden State Finance Authority (GSFA), and Golden State Connect Authority (GSCA) board meetings. [RCRC Agenda, GSFA Agenda, GSCA Agenda]
The RCRC, GSFA, and GSCA boards meet approximately every other month, with most meetings occurring in Downtown Sacramento. However, one of the board meetings is typically held at the annual meeting in September, this year in Placer County, and the summer meeting is generally held in the county the board chair is from. That meeting was this week in Modoc County (Alturas). Interestingly, out of California’s 58 counties, this is the only one I’d never been to. It was an excellent opportunity to meet with my colleagues from California’s 40 rural counties and tour several sites in Modoc County. Some highlights (copied from Placer County Supervisor Shanti Landon):
- Surprise Valley Hot Springs, where we learned about geothermal County partnerships and the region’s rich ranching heritage.
- The Modoc County Sheriff’s Office provided an overview of their public safety efforts, and the Modoc County Road Department highlighted park renovations funded by the Clean California grant
- Devil’s Garden Wild Horse Territory in the Modoc National Forest, the largest wild horse territory managed by the US Forest Service. While at the Double Devil Wild Horse Corrals, officials from the U.S. Forest Service shared their collaborative approaches with local governments on land and fire management, as well as wild horse conservation.
Due to heading to Modoc for RCRC, I had one other board/committee meeting this week that I couldn’t attend, a Yuba Sutter Arts Board of Directors meeting.
Additional items on my calendar included a California Caucus Briefing in preperation for the upcoming National Association of Counties (NACo) annual conference.
This week, community events on my calendar included participating in the United Way’s Together We’re Better golf tournament, a fundraiser for the Yuba Sutter Food Bank, and a launch event for developing 3D-printed homes right here in Yuba County.
